Singer Christina Aguilera joined HopeLine from Verizon in Los Angeles this week for a new campaign to support domestic violence prevention and awareness.

"I know first hand what it's like to have domestic violence in your life," says the singer "That is why I am proud to be working with HopeLine from Verizon to encourage people to take action against domestic violence."

HopeLine is a phone donation and grant-giving program that supports domestic violence organizations across the country.

"Verizon has been committed to domestic violence prevention and awareness since 2001 through our HopeLine program," says Jessica Thorpe, Verizon, Corporate Communications Cultural Engagement and CSR, "This is an issue that's really near and dear to our heart as a company and it's also a main philanthropic focus."

Christina opened up about her own personal experience with domestic violence. "I know what it feels like to... go through those feelings and the residual pain and some hurtful memories that come with that and can affect your whole life," she explains.

The artist also recalls the positive example set by her mother. "My mom, she definitely empowered herself by leaving the situation and taking her children out of that very difficult situation," she says.

Now Verizon looks to Christina as a strong voice for others. "She is a pillar in the community who has been very fearless in speaking out against this issue, not only through the work that she does but through her music," says Thorpe.

You can also lend your own support by purchasing a Verizon prepaid phone bundle at Wal-Mart to support HopeLine and the work of the Joyful Heart Foundation. How is it working with judges Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams? "It's always a fun ride laughing with the boys," she laughs, "All the potty humor...it's always a good a good time."
