It was a celebration of the brilliance of art and display at the "Art of the Pixel" gala at Gotham Hall. And it was LG Electronics throwing the star-studded party to honor the winners of "The Art of the Pixel" New Media competition for emerging student artists.

Neil Patrick Harris, celebrity Ambassador of "The Art of the Pixel," explains why this big event is such a big deal for any supporter of the arts...and of the cool technology that brings that art to life.

"We, for months, have been talking about students in art schools across the country and trying to winnow [the competition] down by having people vote online," says the actor, "[The students] submitted entries of pieces of art that they thought would be best utilized with this brand new technology that LG has. Nine finalists got chosen, the nine are here. This is their first red carpet. I get to announce the winner and the runner-up, they get additional cash prizes, and all of the schools are getting recognized, so it's a real fun night."

Among the celebs snapping quick pics of the students' work, displayed on LG Ultra HD TVs and LG 4K OLED TVs, was actress Sarah Jessica Parker, an active supporter of the arts. "I think it's incredible," she gushed, taking note of how technology could inspire this level of creativity. "I've taken, you know, probably already a hundred pictures. It's beautiful, all of it's really different, which I like," Parker added.

"The Ultra HD and the OLED TVs are stupid impressive," marveled Harris. Art of the Pixel judge Mike Tribe translated Harris' high praise into more technical terms, "[It] basically means they're really high resolution and they've got really great color -- and that's a new kind of canvas, a new kind of palette the artist can work with."

Taking the top prize was John Summerson from Pacific Northwest College of Art for his work "Painting from Life."

And Summerson wasn't the only one who went home happy. All in attendance got the treat of a sneak peek at a virtual technological love child: LG's unveiling of the first 4K Ultra HD OLED TV to hit the U.S. market, combining the two picture quality technologies and setting the new standard for both visual arts and home entertainment. Or, as LG's Tim Alessi describes it, "Simply put, the best TV ever made."

Gala-goer and supporter of the arts Kevin Spacey was glad to get a glimpse of this latest innovation by LG.

"If people were frightened by some of the things we did in Season One and Season Two [of 'House of Cards'], wait until you see it at 8.3 million pixels," the actor said with a smile.
