Music legends young and old came out for the Songwriters Hall of Fame 45th Annual Induction and Awards Gala to honor and celebrate songwriters at the New York Mariott Marquis Hotel.
"We are here at the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and many, many legendary songwriters are being inducted," said Chad Vaccarino, from the band A Great Big World.
"[They're] the best songwriters in the world," added Chad's bandmate Ian Axel, "This is kind of nerve-wracking."
The piano pop duo behind the hit song "Say Something" featuring Christina Aguilera, exclaimed that they were excited to see both seasoned rocker Jon Bon Jovi and newcomer Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds take the stage.
"We are having this incredible opportunity to be honored as young songwriters amongst a bunch of legends," said Reynolds, who received the Hal David Starlight Award. And when it comes to inspiration, the Grammy nominee for 'Record of the Year' looks no further than his journal, "As a songwriter...it's been my thing that I've gone to since the 6thgrade. As long as it's truth, as long as it's honest for you, you know, I respect it."
One of the legends Reynolds spoke of, Chubby Checker, performed his #1 hit "Let's Twist Again." "Tonight I am here to sing the first song -- the first rock and roll song -- that received a Grammy," said the singing sensation.
