New shoes and pencils? Check. But what about the inevitable back-to-school bummers like frayed nerves, germs galore and hungry tummies? Read on to find out what Dr. Keri Peterson recommends to start the year off right.

Welcome Back, Germs:

Battle the inevitable runny noses and sore throats that come with a new school year with Wet Ones, which kill 99.9 percent of germs, according to Dr. Peterson. "You really have no idea if they're washing their hands or practicing healthy hygiene habits. So what I recommend is taking a Wet Ones Antibacterial Wipe and taping it to the top of their lunch box. That way they can use it before they eat their sandwich and you know their hands are clean."

Plus, when they go out to recess, what happens? "Their hands get dirty and grimy. So take a travel pack and put it in their backpack. When they come in from recess they can wipe off all that grime and they have clean hands," she says.

Snacks 101:

"When it comes to healthy snacks there is a great line called Pure Organic which uses wholesome organic ingredients. It's also vegan, has no GMOs and it's gluten free," says Dr. Peterson. The line includes fruit and nut chewy bars, crispy grain bars and fruit strips. They're made with natural fruit and vegetable purees and juices so moms can be reassured that they're giving their children something healthy and nutritious to snack on.

Studying Up on Supplements:

Going back to school can cause kids a lot of stress and anxiety. Now's there's a line to address this problem, according to Dr. Peterson. "It's called Rainbow Light. They have two products called Mental Calm and Zen Therapy. Both of these can help kids reduce stress and anxiety in a way that's not sedating and not stimulating," she says.

Stop The Sick Days:

Nothing is more disruptive to a family's routine than a child who wakes up sick. Try a supplement to stave off sore throats and runny noses such as Counter Attack, also from Rainbow Light. "It's taken at the first sign of illness and can help you boost your immune system to hopefully keep you healthier," says the doctor.
