The top travel destinations, smartest packing musts and coolest gear for a fabulous getaway.

Monterey Must-Sees

The HBO show Big Little Lies scored well among both TV and travel fans due to its spectacular scenery and amazing destinations.

Indeed, there are many places to visit within Monterey County. “Check out Carmel-By-The-Sea, Salinas Valley, Canary Row, Pebble Beach and Big Sur,” suggests Lifestyle Expert Clint Carter, who also suggests driving down Highway 1 for some of the most gorgeous views in the world. “Pass over the iconic Bixby Bridge where you can take some Instagram-worthy photographs and hike Garrapata State Park. Or take a tour of Point Sure lighthouse.”

There are lots of galleries and gift shops in Monterey County, as well as idyllic places to stay such as the Big Sur Cabin at Glen Oaks or a suite at the Big Sur River Inn and Restaurant.

Many parts of Big Sur are currently accessible only by air, so the Post Ranch Inn is offering an Escape Through The Skies Package where they will pick you up in a helicopter and fly you to Big Sur.

Sun and Insect Safety

Once you’ve chosen your travel destination, make sure you pack the essentials. “A couple items that people forget are sunscreen and insect repellent,” says Carter. “A product that makes it easy to get both is the BullFrog Mosquito Coast Sunscreen + Insect Repellent.”

Sunscreen is essential because it prevents early aging and melanoma, and repellent is crucial because not only does it keep you comfortable on your trip but it helps prevent Mosquito-born viruses like Zika and West Nile.
BullFrog Mosquito Coast Sunscreen + Insect Repellent is DEET-free, paraben-free, EPA-approved and has an SPF of 30. It costs about $10 and is available at WalMart,Target, Walgreens or Academy.com.
