Party On from Summer to Fall

From the perfect snacks to grilling and dcor...

From the LifeMinute team

Are you hosting that last Summer blowout or gearing up for the first Fall fiesta? Shape Magazine's Editor-at-Large Bahar Takhtehchian has hot tips for throwing the perfect party.

Hearty Snacks

Now, parties would not be complete without chips and dip, but Bahar says not all chips are made equal. She loves Lay's Classic Potato Chips because they are made with just three ingredients: potato, oil and salt, and they're also gluten-free. Try pairing the chips with hummus. "Another great snack to serve your guests is SunChips Multi-Grain snack," Bahar says, "[A] one-ounce serving contains 21 grams of whole grains -- that's almost half the recommended amount you are supposed to eat per day." Try it with a protein-packed edamame pure. Find the recipe for the edamame, peas and ricotta cheese pure, as well as other recipes, on the Frito-Lay website.

Grilling Through the Seasons

Just because the summer is coming to an end doesn't mean you have to put away the grill. Bahar says you can grill into the fall: "It's a fun and healthy way for you to actually make different types of chicken and meats and fish." Kohl's is a one-stop shop for everything from Bobby Flay's professional line, including a 12-inch tong and slotted turner, each under $15. If you're hosting a potluck, Bahar says to try out a Crock-Pot Double: "You get two different containers here, which is amazing because you can plug in different units for different guests." Find it for $60 at Kohl's.

Festive Dcor

"Don't forget hosting a party means you have to pay attention to the dcor as well," says Bahar. She also hits up Kohl's for items such as festive placemats, for under $26, and tablecloths to set the mood.
