Melke Showcases a Funky and Fun Spring/Summer 2023 Collection at NYFW

The sustainable and genderfluid collection, “How to Act Like a Man,” was inspired by the 1966 Czech film Daisies

Melke designer Emma Gage's inspiration for her fourth collection, "How to Act Like a Man," was a 1966 Czech film called Daisies. The Minnesota native showcased her funky, colorful, and retro-looking spring/summer 2023 collection in The Sunken Living Room at Spring Studios in New York last week.

“I was really inspired by the very blatant motifs of the balance of masculine and feminine and what they perceived as masculinity and what society perceived as femininity," she told us. "I tried to bring those together in a fun, creative way.”

The androgynous looks play off elements from the surrealist comedy-drama. They include corn prints, fringe, beading, scissors, eggs, and bodybuilder adornments. Plus, a sausage link skirt.

Though the brand loves to have fun, Melke also strives to use all-natural and sustainable materials. “My goal is to completely remove any synthetics from my brand,” said Gage.
