New York Fashion Week came to a close this past Sunday. Some of the last designers to showcase their collections were inspired by a past designer and artist and the Mediterranean Sea.
Emily Ratajkowski, Keke Palmer, Chloe Fineman, and Mindy Kaling enjoyed Tory Burch’s outdoor runway show and a pop-up farmer’s market at the location of her new flagship store. The collection was inspired by Claire McCardell’s legacy of American sportswear, which revolutionized the way women dressed back in the 1940s up until today. Burch used striking contrasts of color, print, and fabric to reflect the sense of freedom and self-expression McCardell gave to women.
New York designer Dennis Basso told us his most recent line was inspired by the Mediterranean odyssey of all the coastal towns along the sea. “I wanted to evoke that feeling of nighttime on boats, on terraces with breezes and all the colors that reflect from the sea,” he said.
Kevan Hall’s muse for his latest designs was Christian Bérard, an artist from the 1930s. “It really speaks to his wonderfully kind of painterly hand and his exacting eye for color,” the Los Angeles designer told us.
