Nate Berkus and LG Studio make kitchen dreams come true

Kansas City homeowners Lauren and Tim Oliphant recently hit the design jackpot when renowned interior designer Nate Berkus and home appliance leader LG Electronics chose the young couple, and proud parents of two, as the winner of the LG Studio "My Kitchen Needs Nate" Renovation Contest.

Berkus, Artistic Advisor for LG Studio, explains, "They won this opportunity because they sent in an absolutely fantastic video with 2 ½ year-old Hayes hiding in a cabinet, which really stuck out in my mind. But also, I just felt like they would be so grateful."

And the Oliphants are grateful, indeed. "I love it. It's beautiful," Lauren says of their prize, a complete kitchen makeover courtesy of Berkus and the LG Studio team. The 10-day top-to-bottom kitchen overhaul included an all new floor plan, updated features, and a full array of premium LG Studio built-in appliances.

"In terms of design elements, it's really about what will stand the test of time," says Berkus, "Classic stainless steel appliances from LG Studio mixed with building materials that could have been here since 1920."

Berkus delighted in taking the amazed Oliphants on a tour of their new and improved kitchen. "We took down this wall so now your home is just so bright and open," Berkus tells Tim and Lauren, "And it gives such a great sense of space. Your dishwasher's here, across from the sink; this makes so much more sense. Glassware and cabinetry also gives it much more depth in this space."

And the Oliphant kids were just as impressed with all of the bells, whistles...and buttons. "Okay, you want to know the secret about the refrigerator?" Berkus asks the Oliphants' youngest, "It's really cool. So here's the secret, you can press this button and there are two compartments in the refrigerator. How cool is that?"

The entire experience is one that the Oliphants want to share. "We didn't have room for anything before," says Tim, "We want to use this kitchen to bless our neighbors, our friends, our family; it was a gift to us. We want to make it a gift to anybody else." He chokes up as he adds, "I am so grateful. You're just blown away by the generosity of everyone who was involved."
