Inflatable cat heads, Rebel Wilson in angel wings, golden popcorn everywhere...it must be The 2015 MTV Movie Awards, MTV's annual star-studded love letter to the film industry, complete with quirky categories and can't-miss musical performances airing globally across more than 160 countries and territories, reaching more than half a billion households around the world.
Actress Hailee Steinfeld couldn't wait for the festivities to begin, "Oh, I'm so excited. I love the MTV Movie Awards. Can't wait to see Fall Out Boy. My girls from Pitch Perfect 2 are here; we're here showing exclusive clips. I can't wait for that." Steinfeld's Pitch Perfect castmate Hana Mae Lee agrees, "You guys have like the best artists, the best actors and best fans. It's just so fun."
First-time host Amy Schumer delivered the laughs -- and dance moves inspired by The Hunger Games -- to open the show, in a performance much anticipated by fans and celebs alike.
"I'm really excited to see Amy Schumer. I think she's so funny. I think she's gonna rock it," said Lee, before turning to give a shout-out to Scarlett Johansson who was red-carpet ready in a hot coral jumpsuit. "Hey Scarlett! Scarlett, I love you, you're so sexy!"
J. Lo, Brittany Snow, Victoria Justice, Shailene Woodley, and Mark Ruffalo with daughter Bella in matching tuxedos, were among the other stars making a play for Best Dressed. Woodley had to "settle" for FOUR Golden Popcorn Awards, including Best Female Performance for The Fault In Our Stars which took top honors winning Movie of the Year.
Judd Apatow was among those who brought their kids along to join in the fun. "I was here the first year," remembers Apatow, "I was there the year Whitney Houston sang 'I Will Always Love You.' So I'm a veteran. ... [Amy Schumer] let me take a peek at some of her jokes, and it's pretty, pretty damn good."
Actress Anna Camp, another Amy Schumer fan, was as anxious to check out the red carpet fashion as she was to enjoy the show... "I heard that J. Lo was gonna be here so I'm excited to see J. Lo. And I want to see what's she's gonna wear."
But perhaps actress Victoria Justice sums up best what makes The MTV Music Awards so special. "What makes this awards show different than other awards shows? I think MTV is such a cool network and they don't take anything too seriously. ... They're always pushing the envelope and it's always fun."
