The biggest names in Hollywood; Brad Pitt, Renée Zellweger, Adam Sandler, Martin Scorsese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Kathy Bates, Quentin Tarantino and more were honored at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala in New York City last night. NBC’s Willie Geist hosted the ceremony that celebrates excellence in filmmaking.
Renee Zellweger received Best Actress for her portrayal of Judy Garland in Judy and Adam Sandler got Best Actor for his dramatic role in Uncut Gems, crediting his wife for getting him involved.
“That was my first thought when I got the script. I asked my wife to read it because I knew it was a great movie,” said Sandler, “My wife encouraged me. She said scripts incredible, the guys incredible, you have to do it.”
Knives Out stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon and Daniel Craig took home Best Ensemble.
“Rian Johnson is the key figure here. He wrote a script that bounced off the page. I read it and sort of kind of knew it and recognized it,” said the actor, Daniel Craig, of the director, “He brought together an amazing cast…we are getting some recognition tonight for it which is wonderful.”
