Post-Winter Skincare Revival

NYC dermatologist Dr. Ellen Marmur shares advice on how to uncover your beautiful and healthy skin

From the LifeMinute team

The harsh winter has wreaked havoc on skin, leaving it cracked and dry. Just ask world-renowned New York City dermatologist Dr. Ellen Marmur, whose patients constantly ask how to get their skin back in shape. The author of Simple Skin Beauty: Every Woman's Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy, Gorgeous Skin spills her secrets and poses the questions you should ask yourself about your skincare routine.

Do you use soap?

The first question Dr. Marmur asks her patients is, "Do you wash your skin with soap?" If you do, stop now and instead use a body wash. Dr. Marmur always recommends Dove. "Dove is the #1 dermatologist-recommended brand of bar and body wash," says the doc, "In fact, dermatologists recommend it seven times more often than the next leading moisturizing body wash. They offer both mild cleansing and skin natural moisturizers to nourish skin deep down." Both the Dove bar and body wash are hypoallergenic, as well as fragrance and soap-free.

Do you moisturize?

Dr. Marmur says you can't over-do moisturizing, so make sure to moisturize at least five times a day. And another bonus from Dove? Their beauty bar is composed of 25% moisturizing cream, so you are actually moisturizing as you cleanse.

How long are you spending in the shower?

Are you spending an hour in the shower or just a good ten minutes? Dr. Marmur says the less time, the better for your skin, adding that when it comes to temperature, lukewarm water is best, as hot water can strip your skin of its essential oils.
