What's the most quintessential summer staple? Silky smooth legs! Here to help get gorgeous gams in five easy shaving steps is board certified dermatologist Dr. Annie Chiu.
Always Exfoliate
"Number one make sure you always exfoliate," says the doctor. Exfoliating a few times a week will remove dull skin cells and even cause the hair to pop up a little making for an easier shave.
Save the Shave for Later
"When you do hop in the shower to shave, save the shave for a little bit later in the shower," she says, "Shower water and the warmth and steam in the shower can soften the hair on the legs so you'll get a closer shave."
Don't Skip a Shave Gel
Shave gel? Dr. Chiu says use one! "They're great for tracking exactly where you've shaved and they don't dull the razor," she says, "They soften the hair and just allow you get that really smooth, close shave." The doctor loves Skintimate's Shave Gel that come in various forms from ones that moisturize to others like Island Berry Breeze that she says are "super fragrant and feel luxurious."
The More Blades the Better
"I always recommend trying to invest in a multi bladed razor," she says, "Multi bladed razors really allow you to get a close luxurious sensation when you shave and the Schick Hydro Silk Razor is great for that." The Schick Hydro Silk Razor has five blades on a pivoting head, which allows you to glide over even difficult areas like the knees and the ankles for a smooth, close shave. It even has little guards that really help reduce the risks of nix, cuts and ingrown hairs.
Keep it Fresh
Dr. Chiu says one of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes shaving is not changing their razors often enough. "I think we get a little lazy," she says, "It stays in the shower, it collects a little bit of rust and a little bit of germs so you want to be careful." To remind you to change your razor she recommends Schick Hydro Silk Shower Hanging Refills. "They're just great... they are these waterproof packets you just keep in the shower," she says, "So really practically you just pop one out when you need to change your blades." She advises to change your blade between about 5- 7 shaves to keep them sharp and hygienic.
