Beauty is big business, with thousands of new products on store shelves each year. How do you know which ones to choose? Kim Kardashian, Whitney Port and Selita Ebanks even admit they try everything and spend hours in the store.
So if celebs could use some help choosing the right beauty buy then so can we and here it is. They call it the "Oscars of the beauty biz" - "Cosmetic Executive Women" or "CEW" beauty awards. Where more than 3,600 of the industry's experts get together and award the most innovative products of the year.
Carlotta Jacobson, President, CEW, explains "CEW is an organization of cosmetic women that are in the industry, working in the industry and there's a real expertise that they have and they really can judge you know what's a good product...what are the best products coming out. Because there's so many products that are available today, who's really going to judge which one that's affordable that's accessible....all the things that I really think that women are looking for right now."
Sure are. And experts say that's why they're looking for products that actually "do" something and have a quick result. Linda Wells, Editor-in-Chief, Allure, noted "We're seeing a lot of antioxidants, anti-agers with active ingredients and a lot of natural ingredients too that some now have a real potent value. The key thing though is multiple benefits from a single product so you're getting the most bang for your buck."
So what are the most innovative products in skincare this year? Garnier Nutritioniste's Skin Renew Awakening Face Massager and Lancme Gnifique Youth Activating Concentrate are standouts. And for your body...Fresh Sugar Aa Body Scrub, Vaseline(R) Sheer Infusion(TM) with Stratys-3(TM) and Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins(TM) Night Health Bedtime Spray.
What else? Linda Wells, Editor-in-Chief, Allure, says "We're seeing more and more products that blend makeup and skincare benefits in one so it might be a skincare product with some tint in it or it might be a makeup product with skincare benefits."
Best in face? Covergirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush that sculpts cheekbones for an ageless glow, using Olay's Regenerist Serum. And what about fragrance? Coty Prestige's Lola by Marc Jacobs. Jill Scalamandre, Chairwoman, CEW, says "For the consumer, this award really helps her vet out the good, the bad and the indifferent, it really helps her understand what's best.
So there you have it, the best of the best when it comes to beauty...just look for that pink CEW award seal and never make a beauty blunder again!
