Pop quiz: What's dry, brittle, bleached-out and baked? Well, if you've made the most of your summer, odds are, it's your hair. But Mara Roszak, stylist to the stars, says all that beaching and bleaching doesn't mean you're stuck with lackluster locks for Fall. What's key is figuring out the right combo of products and styling for your individual needs.
On the product front, Mara recommends looking for a line with options for targeting and resolving specific hair issues, like L'Oral Paris Advanced Hair Care. "There is literally something for everyone," says Mara. Color concerns? Try the Color Vibrancy collection. Dryness dilemma? The Power Moisture collection is on the case. And if you fear your hair is beyond repair, damage-erasing balm Total Repair 5 will prove otherwise.
"It's this incredible conditioner, a staple in my shower," says Mara of Total Repair 5, "It can repair up to a year's worth of damage in just one use. If you're in the shower and you've got a couple extra minutes to spare, throw that on, put a shower cap on, let the steam penetrate, and then rinse it off. [Your hair] immediately feels and looks amazing."
As for styling, Mara advises, "If you've been thinking about doing the chop, making that change, now is the time to do it...It's really cool, really modern [and] a little bit edgy which is super cool." Kristen Wiig and Michelle Williams are among the celebs spotted sporting hair's version of the cropped top on recent red carpets.
At the other end of the spectrum, if you have long locks, lots of low ponytails have been making appearances on the red carpet and at Fashion Week. "You could do a low sleek ponytail, which is one of my personal favorites, or customize it for you," says Mara.
And whether your hair is short, long, or somewhere in between, Mara suggests playing with the part, a trend she's trying on a lot of her own clients this season and seen at this year's Emmy Awards on the likes of Christina Hendricks and Kate Mara. "Creating a really, really clean part is going to modernize your hair style. You can either do it straight down the middle or deep to the side...Just change it up a little bit, and it's a really fun, easy way to look really modern and cool."
