Makeup Must Haves Fall 2013
From the neutral zone to the color wheel to sensationail manicures, there was lots of beauty buzz backstage at Fall Fashion Week 2013.
"I'm so happy color is back.," said manicurist Michelle Saunders.
But before you toss the taupes there's always a time to shift into neutral.
"At VPL it's all about a contoured, neutral face. It's a look that would work on any woman. It's very polished. It's very wearable, livable and easy to wear in the real world," said makeup artist Romy Soleimani.
Still, it seems change is in the air ... even our nation's papacy has gotten a makeover ... so why not worship the backstage makeup gods and brighten up? Starting with your nails...
"Everyone wants a purple, a blue, a red and ... so exciting. So, Rebecca Minkoff said I want to create an oil slick feeling. She wanted to match a handbag she was doing. So we chose five colors from the Essie collection and what you do is drop each one on a nail like a polka dot and once they are all on you take a little nail brush and swirl it together and that's the look. Oil slick," said Saunders.
Slick is right! Badgley Mishka had a similar mani message ...
"We ended up with this color that is red so it gives a nod to the old school feeling" said Deborah Lippman of the Deborah Lippman Collection.
From fingers to faces at the same show, makeup artist Tom Pecheux brought an 80s spin to the color wheel with hot pink lips and other electrics sure to turn heads in church.
"Very technicolor. So, I am using a baby blue liner under the eye. A bronze gold eyeliner for flashing and winging the eyebrow."
Eyes had wings and they shined at Trina Turk.
"We did a lot of shaping and shading with a rusty red eyeshadow but having that kind of sheen and shimmer made everything stand out and gave it movement without darkening it," said makeup artist Sarah Lucero.
And here's some top secret application tips that came out of the backstage confessional ...
"We are using our bronzer, custom colored bronze to shape the cheeks as well as using it as eyeshadow in the crease," says makeup artist Sarah Lucero.
At Nanette LePore, holy hot new makeup tool!! Your finger.
"Two spot, two points here. And the gal smudges with the finger. So, it's like softness and hardness together in a way," says makeup artist Max Delorme.
