A few seasons ago the well-coiffed were clamoring for corkscrew curls. Today the cool crowd demands lasting, swingy, beachy waves. And they're easy to get and maintain at home.
New Wave
When hair guru Nunzio Saviano of NYC's Nunzio Saviano Salon noticed a trend on magazine covers and on fashion runways, he decided to help his clientele recreate the ubiquitous swingy, voluminous waves--no matter their hair type. Hence the innovative Digital Wave service was born.
According to Saviano, his salon is the only U.S. outpost to offer the treatment, which uses a special curling iron. "It's not a typical curling iron. It's designed for just this treatment," he says.
"We customize the temperature with very low heat. Between one hundred and twenty and one hundred and forty at the most." The next step: Applying a protection which is safe on colored or highlighted hair. The stylist monitors the progress from start to finish, making sure the heat is distributed all around, from ends to mid-shaft.
Clients can customize the look at home in a variety of ways, including wash and go, using a diffuser or touching up with a curling iron. "However you choose to create your everyday look, it takes minimal time," Saviano says.
Viola! "Look at these beautiful waves," says Saviano, referring to two of his clients with naturally straight locks as examples. When they leave the salon their hair is styled into loose, beach-ready waves that will last three to five months.
