Organizing Your Beauty Closet

It's a new year...the perfect time to clean out your beauty closet and make room for new products so you can start sticking to those beauty resolutions you made for yourself. Redbook's merchandising editor Morgan Thompson shares easy, quick tips to help.

Soften your skin. Commit to moisturizing after every shower this year to get soft, silky skin. The new Vaseline Total Moisture line is a range of lotions that not only do good, but feel good. There are three different scents and the moisturizing formula combines the goodness of pure naturals with the power of the Stratus-3 Multi-Layer Moisture Complex. Slather it on every day immediately after showering when your pores are open and your skin is moist. Your skin will absorb the lotion and lock in all the moisture.

Nourish your hair. Even healthy hair can sometimes get dehydrated. The new Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge line is packed with encapsulated super fruit beads including goji berry, passion fruit and kiwi, which are filled with vitamins and amino acids. It gives your hair an intense burst of hydration without weighing it down. An honorable mention goes to Hydra Recharge One Minute Moisture Replenish Treatment, which provides ten times the amount of moisture in just one minute.

Drink up! If you're not drinking at least eight 8-oz glasses of water a day, you're actually considered dehydrated. It's the number one beauty tip for gorgeous skin, hair and overall inner glow.

Eat a balanced diet, including those green leafy vegetables. Don't forget to eat lots of nuts and fruits as well.

Toss expired products. When you buy new products, make sure you throw out your old ones. Check the expiration dates on all of your makeup, skincare and hair care products. If it's expired, smells strange, changed color or just doesn't look right, it's time to get it out of your medicine cabinet.

Get organized. Clearing up bathroom clutter helps to make your bathroom a stress-free sanctuary. Stash all your beauty tools in glass jars. This way you can see all of your stuff, and it actually looks pretty on your bathroom counter.

Clean out your closet. Don't spare your closet from a deep clean. Have anything in there that you haven't worn in over a year? Give it to Goodwill or have a style swap with your friends. Anything with a hole or tear? Just throw it out.
