The cold weather can bring with it itchy skin, colds that sap your glow, and brittle, thinning hair. Here, Beauty and Wellness Expert Melissa Foss recommends some top products to help win the war against these winter beauty bummers.
Bummer: Itchy Skin
For many of us, winter weather brings dry, itchy skin along with it. Foss recommends skipping super hot showers for lukewarm water. "Hot water can exacerbate the problem," she explains. Also, pick products that are designed specifically to combat the problem, such as those by Curl Skincare. "I love this new line of itch-defense products. There's a body wash that is soap free. Did you know that soap is actually very drying? It's best to avoid it, and this product does," says Foss.
Instead it boasts a blend of cleansers and conditioners that give your skin an instant boost. Ingredients like hydrating jojoba and olive oil that give a nice, rich lather and an instant calming feeling are a better bet.
Next, follow up with the second product in the line: Instant Soothing Moisturizing Spray. "You simply spray it on and it instantly cools and calms. It's super easy too. Just toss it in your bag and go," says Foss.
Bonus: Both of these products have been approved by the National Eczema Society.
They are super affordable at $7-$9 at mass retailers.
Bummer: Winter Colds
The last thing that you want in the winter--or anytime--is to get sick. But since germs actually thrive in cold weather its very likely, unless you turn to a company called Rainbow Light.
"They have a product called Counter Attack that is made from an herbal blend of natural ingredients like Vitamin C and Zinc. It addresses both seasonal discomforts and immune health. It's backed by science and top herbologists. And it really works," says Foss.
There's something for everyone: Formulas for women, men, teens and pre-natals too.
Find them at rainbowlight.com, WalMart, The Vitamin Shoppe and Whole Foods.
Bummer: Thinning Hair
Try a proven supplement to combat it, such as the Hollywood favorite Nutrafol. "It's clinically proven and formulated with natural ingredients that result thicker, fuller hair," says Foss. In before and after pictures the difference is amazing. The shots show the difference in growth on people who took the supplements from between three and six months. "I highly recommend it!" says Foss.
It's endorsed by scientists and dermatologists and is available at high-end spas, dematologists' offices and nutrafol.com.
