Spring is approaching, we're all coming out of hibernation, and naturally we all want to look great when we do. For the gals, there are ample ways to pull off a Spring makeup makeover, but for the guys with less options, we brought in Clint Carter, Senior Associate Editor at Men's Health Magazine, to weigh in on the best options for upping their grooming game for Spring.
"Now, a lot of guys have had some beard and stubble going for the winter, and now it's time to get rid of some of that," says Clint, "The problem is, you might be a little nervous about shaving, irritation, maybe a little bit of razor rash. Maybe you've lived with this for a long time, but the truth is, you don't have to; there's been a lot of progress in shaving innovation." Clint suggests a razor designed to hydrate the skin, like the Schick Hydro 5. "It's the only razor with the patent technology that goes beyond simply removing hair to actually caring for your skin," he explains, "So, as you shave, there is a reservoir strip at the top of the blade that releases cocoa butter and shea butter into your skin. You can actually feel it hydrating your skin immediately as you shave."
But Clint's tips for getting a better shave this spring go beyond upgrading the razor. "The other thing you can do is switch to a better shaving cream," he suggests, "So Edge Shave Gel is perfect. It's a lot thicker than a foam you might be used to, and what that does is it creates a very strong lubricating barrier between the blade and your skin, so you wind up with less friction on your skin. Again, that leads to less irritation and less razor burn."
And as we start getting outdoors again in the coming months, temperatures will be rising, we'll be moving more...and sweating more. Luckily, it seems with every season comes more antiperspirant innovations to make sure that the more active we are, the better we'll smell. "If you've ever used a spray antiperspirant, you know, it goes on wet, it's a little bit sticky, not all that comfortable. You don't want to throw a shirt on immediately after you put it on," says Clint, "But Degree's new Dry Spray Antiperspirant is completely different; it reinvents antiperspirant. It goes on totally dry. It feels just like a little spray of air. You hardly even know it's there." But that doesn't mean it isn't working -- it still offers superior 48-hour odor and wetness protection. Clint says that's thanks to Degree's MotionSense technology, in which the antiperspirant is actually embedded into tiny microcapsules that break open as you move. "So, the more you move, the more it protects you," says Clint, "That's exactly what you want in an antiperspirant; you don't need a whole bunch all at once. You need it to distribute itself slowly throughout the day."
