Admit your dress-up-like-a-celebrity Halloween costume was an epic fail, and not because you're not fabulous enough to pull it off -- of course you are! But you just couldn't nail the hair... SJP's ombr waves, Giuliana Rancic's pin-straight bob, J.Lo's sleek long locks. Well, Maria McCool isn't giving up on you -- the renowned hair stylist and creator of the Perfecter has tons of tips to help you create those celeb hairstyles at home, and just in time for you to dress up as...well, YOU...for all of your fun and festive holiday events.
Maria says look no further than the nearest red carpet to see what the hottest styles are right now. She tells us, "We're seeing really gorgeous waves, very fashionable ponytails, tousled bobs [and] these ombr curls, I like to call them, where it's kind of straight at the top and a little bit curled down the bottom. And then these really sleek, straight looks as well. I mean, it runs the gamut as far as what trends are there."
But Maria says she's found one common denominator... "My clients really want to have the ability to style their hair themselves," says Maria. And that's what inspired her to create the Perfecter styling tool. She explains, "If you can brush your hair, you can use the Perfecter. And this one tool is going to give you all of those looks."
Like that great retro curl you've been seeing so much of? Just take your Perfecter, start at the top of your hair instead of at the bottom, and just curl it down your hair like you would curl a ribbon. "What happens is you get this really great, soft, voluminous type of curl," says Maria, "Which is going to look a lot different than what you get with a curling iron that kind of gives you just that crispy, hard, kind of crunchy curl."
If straight is more your thing but flat is definitely not, Maria explains that the Perfecter doesn't just add volume when twirling curls, it can give you a voluminous type of straight hair look, too. She suggests, "Go right to the scalp. Remember, you can't burn yourself so you can touch your skin with it. And by giving [hair] a little bit of tension, tension on the bottom, you're pulling it straight...it's getting smooth and straight, but not flat. So you have that hair to whip around...[you] have all that pretty bounce, body, volume."
And Maria's success hasn't stopped her from innovating hair styling even further. She reveals, "And another great thing is, coming out in 2015, we already have the newer version, the Perfecter Ultra. And that's for those of you who say, 'My hair is just so difficult for me to do, I can't do it myself.' This is something that's going to give you that extra oomph, for those of you that struggle with your hair." Maria suggests brushing the hair, smoothing it through with the inside of the Perfecter, and then brushing it again, will give those with problem hair the great look they're looking for. Not to mention, you'll have both the sense of accomplishment that comes with doing it yourself and the extra cash that comes with saving yourself a trip to the salon.
