CBGB the movie about the iconic Manhattan club where The Ramones, Johnny Thunder, Blondie, Talking Heads, The Dead Boys and many more got their start, hits theatres October 11th. Alan Rickman plays legendary CBGB owner, Hilly Kristal.
"[Kristal] really started CBGB, a club that was suppose to be country music," says Rickman, "he hoped but it never did because along came punk rock and he was the bright, generous, brave visionary soul who said ok guys come here and play."
Twilight Star, Ashley Greene plays Lisa, Hilly's daughter;
"She was um kind of young and kind of more business oriented and he was very artistic and passionate," says Greene.
CBGB went on to cultivate a new genre of music, significantly impacting many other musicians. The film is getting mixed reviews from the critics, but the New York, premiere turned a fun crowd such as Guns N' Roses bassist, Duff McKagan "If there wasn't a CBGB's, I can pretty much guarantee there wouldn't have been a Guns N' Roses" he told us.
Although the film only highlights a few of the thousands that came through and played, it still offers a unique look into the venue that closed in 2006.
