Petra Nemcova got her start as a model but with all her current charity efforts she adds role model as well. The philanthropist chatted about her most recent projects at New York Fashion Week Spring 2014.
First up, the launch of her luxury home dcor line, Be The Light at Bergdorf Goodman.
"We are bringing treasures from around the world to you. Every candle is inspired by... the treasure of the country and the meaning of the treasure," says the Czech native.
Her birthplace candle is the delicious Czech Holiday Cookie and American Bluebell Bliss represents her current home in the U.S.
"Bluebell in a flower symbolizes gratitude so through the candle, it can say thank you," explains Nemcova, "and it can say thank you during thanksgiving but every single day we have many reasons to say thank you."
Also on her plate, Happy Hearts Fund. The organization whose focus is rebuilding schools after natural disasters has even more reason to be "happy" this year.
"We are celebrating the opening of 82 schools within seven years by the end of this year so it's been definitely busy," says Nemcova the Founder and Chair.
But it's not just her doing it all, she says it's a teamwork and collaboration of everyones' time, skills, ideas and resources that keeps them going strong.
"When we all come together we can really create a tangible change," says Nemcova "By yourself you can do something but together you can do much more."
