"Better for You" Chocolate Cake Recipe

A delicious but good-for-you recipe that will fool your taste buds

Cake and good-for-you don’t normally go hand-in-hand, but they do in this chocolate cake recipe. It’s vegan, gluten- free, dairy free and (without frosting)  under 100 calories per slice. Check it out!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups All purpose flour – or gluten free flour to boost the healthiness

1 cup Sugar Free Granulated sweetener – plenty out there, choose your favorite

1/4 cup Cocoa Powder – Tip: sift it first to ensure there are no clumps - use dark cocoa powder for a richer cake

1 tsp Baking soda

1/2 tsp Salt

1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar – You can also use white vinegar or lemon juice as a substitute

1 tsp Vanilla Extract

6 tbsp Unsweetened applesauce

1 cup Water– room temperature, not warm or hot

Mix together dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Next, add the apple cider vinegar, vanilla extract, and unsweetened applesauce and mix until just combined. Then, add water and mix well. Pour into an ungreased cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, or until a skewer comes out ‘just’ clean. Once cool, frost (if desired) and serve.
