Subway Fans Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy Share Their Fave Sub Sandwiches, Core Memories, and What’s Next for the Brothers

The dancing duo joined the iconic sandwich restaurant to get a behind-the-scenes look at the upgrades to their favorite subs

Hey, Subway fans, the best sandwiches in Subway history just got better. Subway has expanded the Subway Series for the first time. The update includes double cheese, new sandwiches, and new twists on your favorite classics. You’ll now find them on the Subway Series menu with mouthwatering changes so that the next time you’re craving these subs, you’ll be able to order them easily by name and number; the All-Pro Sweet Onion Teriyaki, Ultimate B.M.T., Elite Chicken & Bacon Ranch, and Hotshot Italiano.

With these upgraded fan favorites, Subway gave two super fans, Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy from Dancing with the Stars, a behind-the-scenes look at the upgrades to their favorite subs. “My favorite Subway sandwich is the All-Pro Sweet Onion Teriyaki. I love onions, and it has a lot of onion flavor, along with chicken and all the other awesome vegetables," said Val. 

Maks’ favorite is the Ultimate B.M.T. “I love the cold cuts of it, just sheer," he said. "The simplicity. This is their ultimate Italian sandwich.”

In addition to these fan-favorite upgrades, Subway is introducing two new sandwiches to their menu; the #19 Pickleball Club: ham, cheese, BLT, pickles, and onions, and the #33 Teriyaki Blitz: steak, cheese, peppers, and onions.

Subway has always been one of the Ukrainian-born brothers' core memories. “The immigration, the process of getting established in this country, learning English, understanding what this is all about," said Maks. "Also, growing up a dancer in a dance community, an active Subway, specifically a Subway sandwich, was the ultimate meal in-between rehearsals."

Val added, “Always being on the go, traveling from rehearsals to dance competitions, Subway was always our partner in nutrition. It's a full-circle moment. We're happy to be here.”

You may be surprised to hear that Maks and Val had dreams of owning a restaurant before they found dancing fame. “Two of our best friends worked at Subway. I would go to the Subway all the time,” said Val. "After a while, we all graduated high school, went to college, and eventually we were like, dude, you know how to run a Subway? We wrote up a business plan and approached my older brother Maks, and were like dude, we need some money. Let's open up a Subway.”

So what’s next for this dancing duo? “The new season of Dancing with the Stars premieres in the fall, and I will be on it,” says Val. “We're….reimagining a wine-tasting experience through dance and wine tasting in Napa. Our residency is SAVOR After Hours.”

“This summer, we're going to have a lot of dancing, a lot of eating, and a lot to celebrate,” says Maks, who is expecting his second son with wife Peta Murgatroyd soon.
