2013 Met Gala: Punk Couture
Hollywood trendsetters, from golden girl Beyonc to hot momma Kim Kardashian, made grand punked out entrances at the Met Costume Gala -- the mac daddy of fashion events.
The gala is a kick off to the museum's Spring 2013 Costume Institute Exhibition, PUNK: Chaos to Couture. The show looks at punk's impact on fashion from the beginning of the movement to the 70's and it's continued influence today.
Gwyneth's high pony in hot pink seemed a salute to the punk era. But most A-listers were steamed, spritzed and statuesque making their way up the steps. Long dresses were all the rage versus retro minis. Blazers were big from gangnam style to Madonna style -- dripping in heavy hardware.
Christina Ricci played things up in plaid. Marc Jacob's muse Sophia Coppola was subdued in shiny charcoal gray reminding onlookers this was an urban setting and dark always comes to the party.
Fashion in the city was pretty embellished - head to toe. Sarah Jessica looked like she may have gone straight from the Kentucky Derby to 5th Avenue.
A few ladies hit it just right in white -- Katie Holmes and Heidi Klum.
But if there was one showstopper of the night -- JLO's backless leopard Michael Kors gown scratched and clawed it's way to the top of the Best Dressed list. Met-tastic.
The PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibit runs now through August 14, 2013.
