What happens when a designer's Asian heritage fashionably collides with French Impressionism and the Italian design movements of the 1980s...? A one-of-a-kind cacophany of color and structure and shape, manifesting in giddy floor-skimming flowered dresses, sharply geometric jewelry, playfully patterned shorts and shirts and bold bodice belts that are as much a work of art as they are a fashion statement.
Says designer Andrew Gn of his namesake collection, "It is a very whimsical and a very joyful and happy collection, full of colors [and drawn from] three inspirations: one is an homage to my Asian roots; second is Monet and all the Impressionist paintings that he did...and the third one [is the] design movements in the 80s in Italy...so there's lots of very simple geometrical forms and very strong color palettes to punctuate the whole collection."
And the centerpiece was a literally centering piece brazenly cinching in dress after hue-drenched dress. "This season, we are actually accentuating the waist," explains Gn, "We've actually created what we call the sculpted belt, so it comes in beautiful colors and amazing embroideries and fabrics, but they cinch in your waist and give a structure to the dress."
Accessories enjoyed the spotlight as well: Gn's signature bags in precious skins like crocodile and snakeskin with semi-precious stones, along with "really, really high quality shoes."
As for beauty, Gn's vision for Spring is as fresh as the fashion. "We wanted to emphasize eyebrows and the lips," shares the designer, "It's very strong lips, very youthful, with beautiful long hair. It's just divine."
