Badgley Mischka Fall 2013, Femme Fatales
Designers Badgley Mischka send a stream of femme fatales down the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
"I wear the dresses all the time. I think they're so beautiful," says Aly Raisman.
Flippy skirts had enough movement even for an olympic gymnast. And celeb crooner Colbie Caillat couldn't get enough of the x and ys on the catwalk.
"I love their clothes and their dresses. I just feel young and fun in them," says singer," Caillat.
The design duo focuses on fabrics.
"It's always a sort of film noir thing for us. Clothes that are made for a woman that's maybe on her own agenda. All very old school couture fabrics reinterpreted with modern technology. We added a lot of stretch to our fabrics," says James Mischka.
But they don't stretch far from the season's neutral zone -- black and white is a winning combo and gold becomes a color.
"Very strict color palette. We kind of took real life and decolorized it. We took out a lot of color and made it into mettalics. And then we have wonderful accents of blood red and pine green, " says Mischka.
Even hair requires layers next fall -- models wear braids with a chignon sitting on top.
"It's always like this marriage. You are trying to make it hair young but you are trying to make it sophisticated," says Peter Gray, hair stylist.
And just like the femme fatale you knew in 8th grade that made the boys swoon -- the show has models working the blue eyeliner.
"I am using color.. very technicolor .. so I am using a baby blue liner under the eyes, a bronze gold eyeliner, winging the eyebrows. I look at the collection and think we need to bring glam for sure but at the same time we need fantasy," says Tom Pecheux, makeup artist.
