Indian fashion designer Bibhu Mohapatra, who has dressed the First Lady, takes us on a trip to Tibet.
"The colors really come from the landscape of Tibet. I wanted to use the cardinal red and the mustards that you see in the fields and the valleys, hints of white and steel grays and golds and silvers," says Mohapatra.
The ethnic injection is present in prints of the countryside showing-up on skirts and shifts. He also plays with plum, black, ivory, bronze and neutrals. Top stylists are are jazzed.
"It's a different approach to a woman's body and scale. It's very refreshing. I use it on my celebrity clients. We just really love the energy," says June Ambrose.
Fabrics and textures like chiffon and beaded organza, embroidery and jacquard cover cocktail dresses, skirts and gowns. That richness translates to the makeup.
"We did a little master glaze by Maybelline on the lid blended up into the brow. We used 24 hour color tattoo. On the inner corners of the eye we used a really metallic gold and that's it. That's pretty much it. I didn't want anything else competing with the eye because it's really a statement," says makeup artist Yadim.
Outrageous outerwear is the must have -- no one should leave the house next fall without a statement coat in mink, sable or heck alligator!
The braids are a new twist.
"What we tried to do with the hair ultra chic. Really shiny. Three ponytails in the back of the head to create a modern silhouette," says Amit Abraham hair stylist.
Tibet is trending.
