Water proves to be the most elegant of elements at Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera drew from the element of water for Fall 2015 and what a magnificently dark and stormy sea it was, with everything from shimmering cocktail dresses to long wool felt sheaths to dramatic ball gowns, patterned with silvery swirls of blue and gray.
"What I love about Carolina Herrera is that it's very classic, and what I also love about her is gowns," says Former Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, "I'm a former pageant girl, so I'd always look to her for gowns and I'm never disappointed."
Model Karlie Kloss, who walked in the show, has similar praise for the designer. "She's the ultimate classic sophisticated elegant woman. She's so elegant."
Hair Stylist Orlando Pita expounds upon Herrera's inspiration and how he designed the hair to go with the flow, "This collection has an aquatic theme. Beautiful colors of water, prints of water, reflections of the ocean," says Pita, "So the look of the hair is like the girl just came out of the water and put it in a ponytail, and we get that by getting a wide tooth comb to really feel the lines in there; it's supposed to be really sleek and straight."
The makeup motif also reflected the watery aesthetic, with Makeup Artist Diane Kendal explaining, "The girls are coming out of the water, so it's just evened out skin tone. We're applying false lashes with a little bit of silicone to make those droplets and applying the glitter on top so it reflects the light. And we're using a cherry red matte lipstick."
Cherry red made an appearance in the collection as well, popping up in a striking leather top and cropped pants. Also breaking up the waves of reflective grays, whites and blues was the occasional mix of black and white, in sprays of embellishments or swirling geometric patterns.
Kate Dimmock, Fashion Director for People StyleWatch, observes, "The clothes just ooze luxury and femininity, and they felt really modern."
But TV personality and runway coach J. Alexander perhaps sums up best the collection -- and Carolina Herrera herself. "It's just pure elegance. Full stop. ... Because she's a very elegant, graceful, wonderful, fabulous, generous, creative woman. Chic chic chic..."
