Trends Fall 2013: Clothes that Translate from Runway to Real Life

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, some of the hottest Fall 2013 fashion shows had clothes that will translate from the runway to real life. Tops tucked into pants, neutrals that mix well with one another -- Derek Lam's collection was anything but complicated. "What I loved about Derek Lam's show is he's so got what a woman wants to wear for fall. I loved the fact that there were key pieces in such a beautiful color palette. So, he was happy to mix navy and black with cream," said Glenda Bailey, Editor-in-Chief, Harper's Bazaar. Not everything is everyday friendly - but the lace skirts, cream dresses and camel duffel coats can be assigned to an occassion in every woman's life. Trina Turk took things to a bolder level with brights, not common on other catwalks this Fashion Week but her geometric dresses, hats, hippie vests and long necklaces reflecting California Modernism were surprisingly accessible. "We are doing a lot of deep rich color, teals and purples and berries. Lots of textures. And lots of prints. My favorite is called "Tweed Collage." It's a photograph of tweed fabric it's not actually tweed fabric. It's really beautiful," said Turk. Accessories included scarves -- not your flight attendant's neck scarves -- they're sexy, especially when paired with a strong brimmed hat and sassy prints. At Carolina Herrera it was all about elegance and what woman doesn't want to feel that? "She sent me a fabulous dress and I was like -- oh yes -- I will come. I've been wearing her dresses for years. She's probably one of the most elegant women after so many years that just keeps going and going and brings us beautiful clothes every year," said Supermodel Molly Sims. Red had a serious run at Herrera. Blue was also big but prints prevailed. And Pamella Rolland drove home one must have message -- fur. 'This particular collection of Pamela Rolland is extraordinary. I think the past three or four seasons of hers has just upped the anti every single time and this runway is no different," said Nigel Barker, Judge, America's Next Top Model. Glitzy evening gowns are Rolland's over the top signature -- but whether you shop the runways or the mall -- next fall there really is something for everyone.
