Fall 2013 Trends: Proportion Play and Dark Colors
Fashion icon Heidi Klum's Project Runway crew delivers design themes consistent across many runways at fall 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
"This is project runway season 11 lets start the show, " says Heidi Klum, judge, Project Runway.
Black has a big showing while brights like red or yellow pop up but aren't leading the palette pack.
"They were incredibly creative, we had many flavors," says Nina Garcia, Judge, Project Runway.
Texture even in the form of chunky plastic sunglasses make a statement this season.
"I am a totally geeked out fan, I mean I love this show so much, I know all the players," says Marilu Henner, actress.
Also playing a big role -- clever uses of leather.
Rebecca Minkoff reflecting the snow on the ground outside Lincoln Center sends white wooly coats, long sleeved dresses, knits and hats down the catwalk.
"What's new for fall is I've really expanded my range for what I'm offering it's a true sportswear collection, everything from our incredible outerwear down to our usual sexy dress," says Minkoff.
Taylor got the texture memo -- she is full on tweed, leather and fur.
"I feel like she designs them for her and her friends so she is obviously on point with trend," says Shenae Grimes, actress.
Charolotte Ronson made a point of starting her show with shine -- and she mixes basic black with woodsy colored florals.
"Well, this season I was inspired by my British heritage with a little bit of a sixties feel playing with masculine, feminine," says Charolotte Ronson.
Flower girls flit about in hunter greens and blues wearing their boyfriend's jackets.
Project Runway, Taylor, Ronson and Lacoste play with proportion. At Lacoste its puffy tops paired with slimmer pants and taking home the texture award - their transparent rain gear.
"Well, we are seeing the beginnings of a return to tailoring and a real return to blacks and layering and darker colors," says Brandon Holley, Editor, Lucky.
