Everything from demure collared shirts to roomy pocketed pants to inventively tiered pointy white hats straight out of a fancy witch's ball slowly glided down the wide stretch of runway at Issey Miyake to the uniquely soothing sounds of pipe organ music mixed with Space Age sound effects.
Designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae explains, "The theme of this collection is dynamic landscape..."
And what a changing landscape it was; boxy chocolate brown dresses with their grid-like patterns being spliced with splashes of red or teal were followed by thick and cozy-looking quilted pieces in muted taupe, blue-grays and buttery yellows. But above all, there was white -- white upon white upon white making an appearance in layer after layer, from the sheer to the opaque.
"White is being put in for this collection [for] the pure and lightness," shares Miyamae.
Along with the white came space...as in spacious, voluminous silhouettes, ranging from the simple and practical to the bold and dramatic, made possible by the unique stretch of the new type of fabric used in this collection and hinting that this Spring is about more than beautiful purity and light...it's about experiencing an airy comfort as well.
