Kenneth Cole's urban tradition continues with a technology twist: how does social media effect our wardrobes?

A bromance is in bloom between rock idol Jon Bon Jovi and football hero Michael Strahan in the front row at the Kenneth Cole show.

"The theme of the collection is urban gypsy and it speaks to the notion that if you are not physically traveling the world today you are virtually traveling the world. Everybody is exposed to everything everywhere you've got all these materials and it's dynamic and clothes that are easy to wear and you can layer them and interpret them personally," explains Cole.

How's that for a mouthful? Cole is so adamant about his social media message he even kicks off the show with a mini movie on the topic using actor Alan Cummings and comedian Rachel Dratch.

"We are both tweeting to each other and we're both totally making up that we are in these glamorous places but we're actually doing unglamorous things at home, " says Dratch.

"It's all about what is for real and what's for show. How we hide behind our social media and sometimes we think our lives are more glamorous than they actually are," says Cummings.

How does Cole think this plays out in our closets? The collection has broad blazers, moto jacket and like many other designers this week a big statement sleeping bag-like coat. The accessories are tough - fingerless gloves , chunky combat boots and lots of lug soles. The beauty story is also utilitarian.

"Hair and makeup is stark and clean," says Cole.

Make-up artist Yadim doesn't do much color.

"The skin was kept ultra natural we use MAC face and body on the skin just where it was needed. Lashes curled. Brows groomed to perfection," he says.

If there is a shade that makes the grade for Cole it's red. It pops-up throughout the collection even on the models' fingers.

"Morgan Taylor from Paris with Love a deep, dark, burgundy. We applied that on all the girls' natural nails and we added Need For Speed top coat," says manicurist Gina Edwards.

Other colors are darker and in keeping with Cole's urban tradition .. like grays and blacks.

"Red is the accent color. Clothes and accessorizing at the end of the day should all together not make a statement itself but define and empower the man or the woman, " says Cole.
