Duckie Brown is keeping things light for Fall 2015

In a departure for Menswear label Duckie Brown, their almost gender-neutral Fall 2015 collection is refreshingly light. And that, naturally, is by design, says Designer Steven Cox, "We want every look to kind of look the same. We want it to look very edited. It's the least amount of fabrics that we've used. It's very soft, it's very subtle, it's very romantic. Light wools. Nothing heavy...It's not like the usual winter that we do which is so covered up and buttoned."
How light and casual is this collection? A Chuck Taylor kind of casual...the iconic sneaker was the only footwear on the runway. Designer Daniel Silver's reasoning for the choice is as simple and clean as the collection itself: "Chuck Taylor. White. They're great."
Stylist Robert Verdi attributes Duckie Brown's success to knowing what men want. "I think what's interesting about the Menswear category is its very staid," says Verdi, "And what Duckie Brown does [is] they take ideas and fabrics that men are comfortable with and familiar with, and that's how guys shop."
Fittingly, the "open backstage" venue was as airy as the collection as well. "The walls have come down, and this show is going to be the whole show, for everyone," says Silver. It's a bittersweet moment for the designing duo as Cox adds, "This possibly being the last season for us, I've never seen my own show. And today I will see my own show."
Verdi holds out hope that this collection won't be Duckie Brown's last. "I think that if this was the last hurrah, and I hope it wasn't because these boys are incredibly talented... I think we need really strong Menswear designers in the U.S. because it's something that I think we're underappreciated for, is our talented Menswear designers."
But today, it was all about the amazing clothes, at least for New York Fashion Week Founder Fern Mallis. "At first look, the black soft pleated pants with the white shirt," says Mallis, "I'd love to have that tomorrow."
