Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2015 is off to a bold -- and cold -- start in New York City with collections so spectacularly diverse that we're encouraged that there really will be choices to fit everyone's fancies for next Fall.
At BCBGMAXAZRIA, the loose and long coats stole the show, draped over stylish separates and thick sweaters with huge cowl neck collars stretching from below the neckline to above the chin.
"Well, this Fall collection is really inspired by my travel from Barcelona to the Baltic Sea," explains Lubov Azria who designed the collection with husband Max, "And it's all about separates. I think we have the most beautiful coats this season ever."
And the Azrias proved once again that they are steadfast fan favorites with the celebrity crowd. "Max and Lubov are just incredible. In their hearts, their talent, their energy," says model Petra Nemcova. Actress Sami Gayle agrees, "The two of them, Lubov and Max, are like the greatest people ever."
Over at Joie's cozy fireside fashion show, a chocolaty palette of buttery leathers and rich suedes made for a delicious collection with a 70s Bohemian vibe. Flowing silken maxi dresses, cozy shearling coats and belted cardigans in neutral tones were enlivened by the occasional pop of red or navy, while high cut skirts were paired with over-the-knee suede boots in black and brown.
In a departure for Menswear label Duckie Brown, Designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver bucked the tendency to go heavy and layered for Fall, instead opting for an almost ethereal and androgynous collection made memorable by soft pleated pants, breezy shimmering shirts and identical iconic footwear. "Chuck Taylor. White. They're great," explains Silver, with Cox adding, "It's a soft winter. It's very soft, it's very subtle, it's very romantic. Light wools. Nothing heavy...We want every look to kind of look the same. We want it to look very edited. It's the least amount of fabrics that we've used. You know, I think this is a really beautiful collection."
Most striking to Stylist Robert Verdi was that even in the collection's uniqueness, the designing duo maintained the Duckie Brown aesthetic. "Well, I think that what they do is give us enough familiarity that we're comfortable," says Verdi, "It's how to make it feel new to a guy so that he wants it."
And if these first shows are any indication, every guy and gal will find something to want within the eclectic mix of the Fall 2015 collections.
