It was only a matter of time before the Fall 2015 collections at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week began revealing influences from Past, Present and Future.
The time to fight heart disease is NOW... That was the message at the American Heart Association's presentation of its Red Dress Collection, hosted by Rosie O'Donnell, where over 20 celebrities walked the runway in exclusive red dresses from America's elite designers to support the AHA's Go Red For Women national campaign to raise awareness about women's #1 health threat: heart disease.
Actress Barbara Eden in bright red Carmen Marc Valvo, was spreading the word, "Go for the red. It's for women's hearts," while for Lawyer and TV Personality Star Jones, the evening poignantly marked the 5th anniversary of her successful open heart surgery, "I'm a national volunteer for the American Heart Association, I have been for the last four years. This is not just an evening of fashion and Red for me; this is really my purpose in life."
Over at Tanya Taylor, all eyes were on the future in a collection invigorated by bold and even futuristic patterns. "Lots of newness. New printing techniques," says the Designer of her namesake collection, "There's holographic printing, which I'd never seen before and it's pretty cool. It picks up all the colors and it really is alive."
Even the nail art was an edgy take on trends to come, as Gina Edwards, Lead Manicurist for Morgan Taylor, shares, "[Tanya] said, 'You know what, let's do all the girls' nails in a fishbone,' so we hand-painted the nails for two of the looks that the girls have, and it really goes beautiful[ly]."
And at Saunder, it was a modern spin on the Tudor trends of centuries past, according to Designer Emily Saunders, "The inspiration is Henry VIII and that kind of Tudor era. A lot of just, kind of street-meets-luxury."
Hair Stylist Nunzio Saviano looked back in time to find inspiration for the hair as well. "You know, taking it from the 1800s Queen Elizabeth," explains Saviano, "All the hair that is crimped with a light tease at the base...it gets rolled towards the back."
Saunders adds, "[There is] some fur, so we kind of have that, and pearls as well, which was like a big sort of Tudor [trend]. It's like little nods to that time."
And no doubt those little nods to trends Future and Past will continue during this New York Fashion Week as time marches on towards Fall 2015.
