Designer Emily Saunders says of her namesake collection for Fall 2015, "The inspiration is Henry VIII and that kind of Tudor era. A lot of...street-meets-luxury. Some fur...and pearls as well, which was a big sort of Tudor [trend]... It's little nods to that time."
Held at the Empire Hotel, the show included everything from buttery yellow column dresses to tailored menswear-inspired separates in a mix of rich textures and patterns.
"We also incorporated spikes," adds Saunders, "So it's a little bit of an edgy modern and classic all at the same time."
The striking look for hair was also inspired by the Tudor era, as Hair Stylist Nunzio Saviano explains, "Taking it from the 1800s Queen Elizabeth, to modernize it, that was really the key. And looking over pictures of Queen Elizabeth, everything she has is rolled back with a lot of teasing and smoothing. And afterwards, all the hair that is crimped with a light tease at the base... gets rolled towards the back."
And to complete the look, Make-up Artist Orlando Santiago took his cues from Marie Antoinette. "For shock value, we're doing it a little bit exaggerated, also in shape and in color, but we just use a lot of whites in the eye," he explains, "It really does create a little bit of drama, especially against the pale skin. You know it looks really, really beautiful."
