Everything was new again at Tanya Taylor, says the designer herself, "Lots of newness. New printing techniques. There's holographic printing, which I'd never seen before and it's pretty cool; it picks up all the colors and it really is alive. New embroidery, new fabrics, new prints. Lots of colors. Hot Apricot is a main color and this kind of silver overtone throughout. We have a lot of silver hardware."
All of that newness made its way down the runway in roomy coats with flattering folds, varsity-inspired jackets, plenty of pattern mixing, pops of bright hot color, slinky black dresses splashed with holographic fishbone prints and light-reflecting discs embellishing long sleek gloves that stretch far beyond the elbow. And for the ungloved...
"The nail look...," begins Taylor, "We were thinking of what color to do. The last girls really come out, and it's this expression of crazy color and holograph nature. We thought, why not bring that to the nails? So Gina created this incredible pattern on the nails, and I think it looks fun. It's like a nice pop."
Gina is Gina Edwards, Lead Tech for Morgan Taylor, who explains the technique, "We've painted a beautiful glossy black nail. And what we did to achieve that [is] use Morgan Taylor's Little Black Dress. And since Tanya wanted a very high shine on the nail, we did that with Make It Last, which is a regular topcoat, with Need for Speed which is ultra high gloss shine. And then she got really creative and said, 'You know what? Let's do all the girls' nails in a fishbone.' So we hand painted the nails for two of the looks the girls have, and it actually goes beautiful because it has a holographic glitter, Fame Game, that we used and Could Have Foiled Me, which is also a silver. So we did the silver first, then the Fame Game and it really emulates what the girls are wearing."
To offset the dramatic fashion and nail look, the hair and makeup were kept very clean and minimal. "First and foremost, it's a really clean beautiful luminous look," says Makeup Artist Uzo, "So it's all about beautiful skin and then just a beautiful rosy lip and defined eyes, which is really the Tanya Taylor aesthetic."
And for the hair, Hair Stylist Allen Wood explains, "With this show, it's just a clean, minimal center parted low ponytail that we are tying off with this custom made leather tie to give it a bit of interest and a slight utilitarian feel."
For Tanya Taylor in Fall 2015 the future is looking bright indeed...
