Anna Sui was the place to get in touch with your inner Viking princess. Knit boots and caps with ear flaps, patterned ponchos, shearling trim, fox and mink fur and intricate folklore-inspired embroidery with Scandinavian influences drove home the Viking vibe in a collection catering to the young and bold.
But for actress Amy Sedaris, Anna Sui is timeless, "I'm a big fan of hers, and I've been to her show a couple [of] times. It's always fun. I'm wearing [Anna Sui] right now. Yeah. Still fits."
Model Coco Rocha adds, "It definitely speaks to itself. I mean, it's its own genre. No one else has an Anna Sui twist."
At Erin Fetherston, the playful and youthful aesthetic was more forest fairytale than Scandinavian wilderness. Style and Beauty Expert Mary Alice Stephenson points out, "Well, Erin Fetherston is, you know, like girlie galore."
A smattering of floral prints and berry tones dominated a glossy forest-inspired collection of demure dresses, flirty skirts and satiny separates. "My idea was sort of a woodland fairytale," says Designer Erin Fetherston, "I wanted to, you know, create something that was on one hand quite polished and sophisticated, but on another very light, airy and ethereal."
And everything from sophisticated streetwear to chain-mail couture had its moment in the spotlight at Art Hearts Fashion, where emerging artistic designers and style beacons for the next generation joined forces to support the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
Designer-philanthropist Erik Rosete, who founded Art Hearts Fashion in 2011, explains, "This will be the last show to ever take place at Lincoln Center and under the Mercedes-Benz title. We all get to come together and support a great cause which is the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, so we really build a lot of awareness within the younger community. Everyone really comes together to put on a really great show. ... Every designer here is telling their own unique story, but we're all coming together to tell one big story, which is Art Hearts Fashion, and fashion has a heart, and we can all work together to collaborate to show on the biggest stage in fashion."
