NYFW Spring 2014 / DAILY 3: Next Spring is a Trip
The spring collections take us on quite a trip from New York to Mexico and a few stops in between

As the leaves turn in New York, statuesque men and women twirl on the runway, celebrating the spring 2014 collections. So far, it's been quite a trip. Rebecca Minkoff puts new looks on the map.
"I was inspired by strong latin american women. I really played with flowers, color, texture and embellishment. This is one of our dresses. This is one of the textiles, again we developed to mimic a mexican blanket but more feminine. This is a vest. Vests are going to be big this season," she says.
But if you're not big on Mexico than put on your sneaks and hit the streets of New York where many a style cue can be taken, according to Kenneth Cole.
"It's a traditional urban aesthetic married to what we call 80s Harlem chic. It's clean refined streetwear married with elements of leisurewear and sportswear. It's very comfortable dressing, that's very colorful, it's very invigorating," says Cole.
From sweatshirts to flouncy skirts to office attire teamed with high tops, Cole never leaves home with his collection.
Braids are along for the ride this spring .. every runway is wrapped in them.
"So we've gone with the braids. Full braided and braided to the nape and then a little looser," says Esther Langham, Hair Stylist.
Many designers take us to the gym.
"We want to do the body and everything to do with motion," says VPL designer Victoria Bartlett. "And the shoes we've done like a sports finish."
For spring, closets should be pumped-up with bright yellow, grey. But if you had to choose one getaway to spice up your closet this spring -- the most fun might be Jill Stuart's plans.
"My inspiration was rock star girlfriends on holiday. A lot of baby doll dresses, slip dresses, tunics and caftans," says the designer.
Lace, leather and love the one you're with. Actress Katie Chang is on board!
"I came here to Jill Stuart because I love all her pieces. I always feel so confident when I wear her dresses I had to come," she says.
It's been a wild ride so far but it's a trip you're sure to take again and again next spring because the cost is never too great. Just ask photographer and father to a big shopper, Nigel Barker.
"She never fails to always dress women in the most beautiful, ethereal, feminine sort of way. It's just flirtatious enough that I'd let my daughter wear it.
