NYFW Spring 2014 / Nanette Lepore: Try a Little Tenderness
Nanette Lepore encourages women to find their softer side and actress Kelly Rutherford is taking note

Nanette Lepore is inspired by modern women and in her eye we've all gotten a little too tough.
"It was a new romantic inspiration sort of embracing the idea that we need some softness again. A lot of long, flowy things and then sharp jackets and suits because I'm feeling like our women are ready now. And then graphic, sharp shoes and bags to keep it modern .. yet , lets introduce some softness again," says Lepore.
LePore gives us license to get girly again with her ruffled, embroidered, poppy print dresses. Her color palette is a unique take on pastels - dusty turquoise, a mellowed chartreuse and crisp white.
"I love that they are so easy to wear. I walk in. I find something and I zip it up and I go -- it's just comfortable, beautiful clothes," says actress, Kelly Rutherford.
Red also plays a strong role in the presentation -- we see it on a cool jumpsuit and the soles of shoes.
"They are so feminine and playful but still sexy but ya know sometimes bohemian .. I love that it's like a free, fun line," says Christiane Seidel.
Tailored jackets and suits. A killer one in red -- underscores the balance she's trying to strike ... strong and soft.
"The makeup was very sweet, pale looking makeup and then just pumped with that red/ orange lip," says Nanette.
And Lepore doesn't go for the slicked back, up dos and braids that are all the rage elsewhere at Fashion Week -- she lets loose.
"For the hair, we wanted it to look a little bedroom ... like she just woke up ... a little bedroom, a little desheveled. We wanted it to fly and move with the clothing," says Lepore.
Of course, it wouldn't be spring without shorts and loose tops.
"The versatility of the line is really unique. There is something I can wear on the red carpet, there's something I can wear to dinner and something I can wear out the door everyday. Plus, I just love Nanette, she's such a fun, kind human being I think that lends something to the clothes," says actress Sami Gayle.
A strong collection with soft options.
