NYFW Spring 2014 / VPL Fashion Meets Fitness
VPL combines fashion and fitness at their Spring 2014 show where models work out with resistance bands and bop to headphones looking runway chic but treadmill ready
VPL's spring presentation feels more like a Zumba class than a runway show.
"We want to do the body. We want everything to do with motion. And it's a lifestyle change. Women have changed," says designer Victoria Bartlett.
Bartlett draws inspiration from women on-the-go ... going so far as to stage the collection in a retro Chelsea gym. Models sweat through circuit training in sporty shorts, leggings and camis.
"I always have neutrals, the greys and the nude colors and then we did the pop sunshine, royal blue and the flame," says Bartlett.
The brand's signature color blocking is ever-present as is fitness-like footwear with a space-age twist.
"And the shoes, we've done like a sports finish pull on sneaker with a peep toe and then the latex sandal," says Bartlett.
In keeping with the theme life-is-like-a-treadmill , the hair is no-nonsense -- pulled back but still pulled together.
"We are just doing a beautiful fishtail braid in the back to kind of give it the geometry which really represents VPL," says Bob Recine, hairstylist.
Brights get a workout right down to the makeup.
"It's all about mixing with lip gloss and yellow eyeshadow and we're making this glossy graphic shape and it's just a pop of color, there's really nothing else," says make-up artist, Romy Soleimani.
