Whether you're a sleek city slicker, a rocker chick or girly to the core, the collections from Perry Ellis, Project Runway, Saunder and Monique Lhuillier prove that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015 has a little something for everyone.
"The inspiration came from the active guy in the city and the environment of the city," says Michael Maccari of his debut collection for Perry Ellis, which featured linear elements of grids borrowed from the architecture of New York City.
Comedian Jay Pharoah is a fan, "You know, I'm trying to stay hip with my clothing nowadays," says the SNL star.
Over at the show for Lifetime's Project Runway, the series' top nine contestants from Season 13 revealed an eclectic mix of designs. Critiquing each look from the front row were judges Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen. Olympian Lindsey Vonn and Disney star Peyton List also came out to show their support.
Next up was newcomer Saunder, with Iron Butterfly's 1968 rock ballad "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" serving as the muse behind the Spring line.
"I went to that initial inspiration to really having this concept of a rock-and-roll Garden of Eden," says designer Emily Saunders of the bright and funky floral fashions, "It's a really, like, fresh, fresh collection. I'm really excited about it."
And lastly, the collection from Monique Lhuillier favors femininity. "It is a pretty lady party," says actress Abigail Spencer, "And that is what Monique does...she brings all the pretty ladies together."
The designer started her collection in the same way that she starts her days: with a sunrise. "The early morning colors that you see..." says Monique Lhuillier, "All those beautiful pastels and the shimmer...I really wanted to capture that." And in keeping with the collection, the hair and the makeup stayed sleek while the nails were all about luminosity.
