When the Emmy-winning show Project Runway debuted in 2009, not even beloved mentor Tim Gunn thought that it would have the longevity and respect that it's earned. Fast forward to today, and the power of the franchise is unmistakable.
Many fashion stars have climbed the Project Runway ladder, including Christian Siriano, Jay McCarroll and most recently, season 14 winner Ashley Nell Tipton, whose Spring 2017 NYFW show and collection are backed by retailer JCPenney. (Gunn wasn't so pleased with the plus-sized collection, however, calling it "hideous.") Regardless, there's no denying that A-list crowds show up for the show every season--think Zendaya--and that fans will tune in in droves when the show resumes on September 19th on Lifetime.
Longtime judge Nina Garcia agrees that the show is only getting better. "It was a fantastic fashion week show. A lot of excitement and a lot of camaraderie between the contestants. It's the beginning of fashion week. It's still very feminine, still very girly, with a lot of color," she said.
Tipton agrees: "Obviously I'm coming back to show my support to the new season 15. I'm here because I just launched my new line with JCPenney as well for plus-sized women. I definitely see a lot of embroidery going on, a lot of sequins and that is super fun."
