Pamella Roland to Russia with Love, Fall 2013
Designer, Pamella Roland's glitzy gown collection is a Valentine to St. Petersburg.
"She loves it in Russia. She has been there many, many times and she went back again. She was inspired by the grandeur of it all. There is a heritage there," says Nigel Barker a judge on America's Next Top Model.
A heritage and a fancy night life apparently -- calling for over the top dresses in everything from bright red to burgundy to creamy white.
And while most of the shows sent subtle beauty messages the Russian ladies had strong faces.
"A rather severe hair and makeup look but it's to really focus your eyes right onto the gowns," says Barker.
It's tough to take your eyes off them with sequence, beading, feathers and flashes of fur traveling down the runway. Sportier pieces like long cowl neck knit sleeveless sweaters are mixed in but not the main message.
On the eve of Valentine's Day, Nigel Barker falls hard for Roland's collection.
"The women have a sense of pride about them and a sophistication and at the same time they're happy because they're comfortable with what they're wearing. It's a really beautiful collection," he says.
