Richly hued separates and lots of loose layers reigned supreme at Thakoon, where Designer Thakoon Panichgul looked to the night sky for the inspiration behind his Fall 2015 collection.
"He's such a visionary," says Model Lily Aldridge of the designer, "[His clothes are] cool and wearable and a little bit girlie but still have an edge to them, and I just love him as a person. So I just love to be here and support him."
In a collection characterized by a magnificent collision of colors and stripes, Panichgul strove for a modern take on the Aurora Borealis. "I was really feeling an opulent color palette and also richness in the fabric, but also mixing it with something that's a bit sporty. A lot of amber color, brown color, mohair, wool, velvet tapestry..."
Even the nail look reflected the designer's inspiration. "We wanted something that was more opalescent and more iridescent, just to kind of capture this kind of feeling of Northern Lights," adds Panichgul.
"In order to achieve that," Manicurist Gina Edwards for Morgan Taylor explains, "We used two colors by Morgan Taylor. Sweet Surrender, which is a sheer baby pink, and Something to Blog About, which is a beautiful dark deep purple opalescent color. But, to get that glacier feeling, we diluted Something to Blog About with Make It Last, so when we applied it over the Sweet Surrender, it really did create a gorgeous, soft, holographic, iridescent color."
And in keeping with the vision for the makeup... "We're doing a really warm palette: a beautiful wash across the lid, up into the eyebrows, blended onto the temples, and then lipstick," says Makeup Artist Diane Kendal, "And we're using our fingers to give that beautiful warm stain."
The overall impact of the astronomical collection is best summed up in the words of Thakoon Panichgul himself: "Opulence made contemporary."
