The Trends: Fall 2013 Takes on Texture

The Fall 2013 signature designs of Rebecca Taylor, Herve Leger, VPL and Catherine Malandrino had a ton of texture.

Taylor goes for a tomboy take on fur and sequence ...

"This show was really inspired by various influences ... sort of boy meets girl ...like a little bit British punky," says Rebecca Taylor.

The models sport lumpy leather and zipper embellishments.

"I think that her clothes are very strong and very feminine and I think it's really cool when designers embody what that actually means to be a strong female," says actress, Shailene Woodley.

Strong materials like goat fur and beading continue on the catwalk at Herve Leger.

"We are styling Herve Ledger differently to give people more options. There's more texture. We actually have girls wearing hats the whole time. Great shoes. Sculptured bags. It's a very luxurious collection," says Lubov Azria, designer, Herve Leger.

Knitted chapeaus and suede shoes take texture head to toe.

At Victoria Bartlette's VPL show, loose silhouettes on sweaters and coats in leather, metallic and knit create a rippling effect.

But Catherine Malandrino was a cut above the rest -- here texture is about negative space. Clothing with holes created by embroidery stitches and crochet.

"I introduce a lot of this very clean pure line with new proportion, a very high waisted skirt and pant with a small torso and a very elongated silhouette. So, it's all about a woman's body," says Malandrino.

And that part goes very smoothly for Malandrino, Bartlett, Azria and Taylor.
