Vivienne Westwood Spring 2013 Paris Fashion: Global Exotic
Designer Vivienne Westwood is known for her bold, colorful patterns, corseted silhouettes, draping of luxurious fabrics, rushing and unapologetic embellishments. It's a style usually only the most fearless fashionistas can wear. But her Gold Label Spring 2013 fashion show at Paris Fashion Week not only lived up to her reputation for being an eccentric designer, but it also managed to be one on the most wearable collections (seriously) she's presented in the past few years. Despite models with hair-raising updos and faces framed by a huge painted heart, some of Westwood's most dazzling pieces--such as tapestry-printed jumpsuits and some metallic column dresses--are not just for the intrepid anymore.
The eccentric designer described her latest collection as being global exotic. "For a print I coloured and elaborated the drawn pattern which was covering a box of Chinese tea. This print is somehow global - exotic; it could be Indian, Asian, Russian, African," she explained on viviennewestwood.co.uk. The parade of models was wonderfully multicultural, solidifying Westwood's message as a global one. She called her collection Climate Revolution, and while there was no brazen political message, it was clear by accents of butterflies, beetles and insect-like iridescence, that she was inspired by the beauty of mother nature and the diversity of our world.
The Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Spring 2013 fashion show took place at the British Ambassador's residence in Paris, and thanks to a few crowns, there was a bit of colonial Great Britain charm mixed with modern punk accents like dresses paired with sneakers or short jumpsuits worn with sheer tights.
Taking in all of the different and quirky nuances of the fashion show was everything you'd expect from Vivienne Westwood. Only this time, there were a few pieces that you could actually picture yourself wearing. Cheers to that!
