This winter kick up your coat collection! We sat down with InStyle Magazine's fashion director, Hal Rubenstein at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to get some of his best suggestions for a stylin' sheath.

"It has to be an extraordinary coat," says Hal. To get a fab one the expert says don't go for one in the colors you usually choose or the same shades as last's year's jacket.

Try something with "drama" he says like "a longhaired shearling or something with a cape attached."

And if you live in a "walking city" where the streets are your runway, it's especially crucial to sport some outstanding outerwear.
